The suspect connected to the gruesome murder of Yetunde, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, has been arrested and paraded by the Nigeria Police Force.

Yetunde Lawal, the victim, was reported missing some time ago by her father. After a swift investigation, her remains were discovered at the residence of Abdulrahman Bello, a 29-year-old Muslim cleric (Alfa).

Bello confessed to chopping off the victim’s body parts and discarding them, claiming he was confused at the time and a victim of circumstances. According to him, Yetunde died of natural causes, as she was asthmatic. He claimed he discovered her lifeless body after going out to buy food for her, as she had complained of being hungry. He also admitted that she was his girlfriend and they had met online on Facebook.

HIS CONFESSION

“My name is Mohammed, and I’m an Islamic teacher. The girl is Hafusa. She is my girlfriend. I met her on Facebook. I didn’t murder her. I’m merely a victim of the situation. I am not yet in school, but I’m on the verge of being accepted into KWASU.”

“What happened is that she informed me there was an event at 1 pm after school that day. She returned home after 3 pm. When she arrived, she mentioned she hadn’t eaten, so I went to get her some food. But when I returned, she was struggling to breathe. She had previously told me that she was asthmatic.”

“I was in shock when she passed away, and I couldn’t call for help. I cut up her body and disposed of it at a public dump because I didn’t know what else to do. I’ve never done anything like this before; it’s my first time,” he stated.

Many have found his side of the story to be false. It is only natural to raise an alarm if you notice the person you are with is unresponsive and to seek medical help instead of cutting them into pieces and disposing of them.

Additionally, the police discovered fetish items in the suspect’s residence, raising suspicions that this may not have been his first crime.

Yetunde’s remains were found in his residence, which led to his arrest for alleged murder. The incident has sparked outrage, with many questioning how Bello could still claim to be innocent despite the evidence against him.
