“We’re Fortunate to Have You as Our Father”: Asanike Praises Ibadan Chief Oyero for Olubadan’s Coronation Success
Prince Kola Asanike, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and philanthropist, has praised Chief Bayo Oyero, chairman of the Olubadan Coronation Committee, for his outstanding role in the successful installation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Asanike, in a statement, described Chief Oyero as “a father to all,” noting that his leadership, organisational skills, and commitment were instrumental in ensuring that the coronation events were seamless and befitting of Ibadan’s cultural pride.
“We are truly fortunate to have you as our father,” Asanike said. “The success of this coronation reflects your dedication and sacrifice for the unity and progress of Ibadanland.”
He further stressed that Oyero’s service to Ibadan extended beyond the coronation.
“Chief Oyero has consistently shown that he carries Ibadan in his heart,” Asanike noted.
“From his time as President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes to this moment, he has always been a bridge between our past and our future.”
Chief Oyero, a respected elder statesman and former President of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), led the planning and execution of the week-long coronation activities, which drew dignitaries from across Nigeria, including President Bola Tinubu, governors, ministers, traditional rulers, and thousands of Ibadan indigenes at home and abroad.
The events, which culminated in Oba Ladoja’s crowning on Friday, September 26, were widely hailed as colourful and well-coordinated, showcasing Ibadan’s rich traditions and reaffirming the city’s place in Yoruba cultural heritage.
Prince Asanike added that the coronation would be remembered as one of the most organised in recent history.
“You gave us a coronation we can be proud of,” he said. “It was not just about tradition; it was about excellence, about showing the world the dignity of Ibadanland.”
He concluded with a personal note of gratitude:
“On behalf of the younger generation of Ibadan sons and daughters, I want to say thank you, Baba Oyero. Your wisdom and guidance remind us that leadership is service, not privilege.”
