I have no hand in Al-Makura, Abdullahi Adamu’s political misfortune, says Sule.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has denied playing any role in the “political misfortune” of Senators Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and Abdullahi Adamu.
Senator Al-Makura had lost his re-election to the Senate during the 2023 election and was schemed out in the just concluded ministerial appointments by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Senator Abdullahi Adamu recently resigned his position as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to irreconcilable differences.
Some national dailies (not Bamitolamedianews) had recently reported that Governor Sule was behind the senatorial election loss of Al-Makura and his inability to be part of the recently appointed ministers as well as Senator Adamu resignation, noting that the governor tactically retired the duo from politics.
Speaking yesterday in a press conference at the NUJ secretariat Lafia, Governor Sule through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba, said Senator Al-Makura’s name was the first among the three names the governor submitted to the President for appointment as a minister representing Nasarawa state.
“It is a known fact that the appointment of ministers is solely the prerogative of Mr President to consider and appoint whoever he wants from each state as a member of the Federal Executive Council. Governor Sule’s power to determine who is appointed a minister is limited. Governor Sule wholeheartedly supported Al-Makura’s re-election back to the Senate which he unfortunately lost to the PDP candidate,” Ahemba said.
He explained that Governor Sule had no hand in the political squabbles that led to Adamu’s resignation as APC national chairman, saying: “It is rather mischievous for anyone to insinuate and or accuse Governor Sule of responsible for the internal disagreement among members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party that led to the voluntary resignation of Senator Adamu.
“The unfortunate development has nothing absolutely to do with the governor. It is on record that Governor Sule was the first APC Governor to openly declare support for Nasarawa state to have National Chairman of the ruling party and worked relentlessly for its realization
“Again, when there were agitations in some quarters for the ousting of the national chairman early this year, Governor Sule stood firm against the move, without minding the implication on his re-election bid. How then will the governor turn around to destroy the house he contributed immensely to building?”
He described the report as mischievous with potency to cause unnecessary friction between the governor and the two political leaders in the state, and urged both Senators Al-Makura and Adamu to be wary of mischief makers.
